When HarperCollins Christian Publishing reached out to me last spring to see if I was interested in receiving a copy of their ICB Jesus Calling Bible for Children for an honest review and a potential giveaway, I knew right away that I’d be interested! I worked my way through Sarah Young’s Jesus Calling devotional a few years ago and loved the experience, so I was very excited to see how her work had been adapted to devotionals alongside a children’s Bible.
And y’all, this Bible is wonderful! We have a few children’s Bibles, but they’re all written in storybook form (our favorites have been The Jesus Storybook Bible and The Rhyme Bible Storybook). What sets the ICB Jesus Calling Bible for Children apart from others is that it is actually a full-text translation of the Bible specifically for children; it’s written in books and verses just as an adult Bible, but in more kid-friendly language. The publishers have also included 96 “stories” that correspond to passages from the Bible (these read more like the storybook Bibles for younger children) and 160 of Sarah Young’s children’s devotionals. While our oldest isn’t reading independently enough yet to access this Bible on her own, the language is simple enough for both of my girls to understand when we read it out loud, yet it is still written in a way that corresponds verse-by-verse to our own adult Bibles. I love that someday, they’ll grow into reading this on their own and could study alongside me!

In Andrea Joy Moede’s God is Light, a rhyming story about light and darkness helps children begin to understand the light and love that God brings into their lives and the world around them. Moede includes a corresponding Bible verse on each page. These verses could be used as wonderful memory verses for families looking for that!
